Discussion and Q & A

About the Author (from her website bio)

Paige was born HIV Positive and bullied severely in middle school because of her HIV status. Her classmates called her cruel nicknames, such as PAIDS. Her soccer coach even made a joke about how her HIV status could help the team. And the school administrators let her down by not protecting her.

After leaving her middle school, she decided to take a stand and started to speak out sharing her story. At the age of fourteen, Paige was granted special permission to become the youngest person to ever be certified through the American Red Cross as an HIV/AIDS Educator.

She even pleaded to congress in her home state of Indiana and helped pass the Anti-bullying Bill #1423 that was effective July 1, 2013.

“Every Kid in a Park” is an initiative established by the federal government and supported by a variety of partners. It allows fourth-graders to download a pass from everykidinapark.gov for free admission for them and their families to more than 2,000 federally managed lands and waters nationwide – including national parks, national forests and marine sanctuaries – for a full year.

We draw names on Friday of those who had a Paw Pride paw turned in for Respect, Responsibility, Kindness, and Perseverance.  The kids are really working on these traits and it shows!!!  Ask them about their Paw Pride groups!!

Brown County Schools has recently mailed a letter to all Parent(s)/Guardian(s) of students who took the Spring ISTEP+ test in Grades 3-8. This letter includes information on how to access the ISTEP+ Parent Portal where you can find your student's current score, performance level (Pass+, Pass, or Did Not Pass), and the written responses to ISTEP+ Part 1 questions for each subject area of your student's test.

You can also request that your student's response to one or more questions from ISTEP+ Part 1 be rescored if you have any concerns regarding the accuracy of the scoring for any particular test item.

If you did not receive a letter for your student or if you have difficulty accessing the information on the Parent Portal site, please contact the Brown County Schools Administration Office, Attention: Mrs. Ronna Snyder.
