BCS Foundation History

Brown County Schools has existed in some form since the 1830’s. Our District Office is located in a house built in the 1870’s. Over time we have grown from a collection of one- room schoolhouses to a corporation composed of 2230 students who attend one high school, one junior high school, and four elementary schools. The District also operates a Career Resource Center for adult education. We pride ourselves in providing a quality education for our students.

Our students are currently facing a reduction in staffing, which will result in larger class sizes, in programming, and in educational opportunities. These reductions are a result of delays in property tax collections over the past five years. This situation is unique in terms of the length of time without funding for a public school corporation in the state of Indiana.

In November, 2008, Brown County Schools felt the need to follow other school districts by establishing our own non-profit foundation. Through the cooperative efforts of local parents, faculty, alumni, and community members, this foundation will raise funds to enhance the academic achievement and enrich the educational experiences of our students.

To maintain a superior quality education, we require additional financial support. Please join us in helping to provide the best possible education for the boys and girls of Brown County. Our united efforts can provide our students with a better future. We believe this foundation will be a great source of pride for the school district and the community for years to come.
