School Closings
EMERGENCY SCHOOL DAY MODIFICATION
Cancellation, Delay, Early Dismissal
In the event that it becomes necessary to modify the school day because of snow or other condition, the following procedure will be utilized.
For potential cancellations or delays, the Transportation Supervisor (TS) and the Superintendent of Schools will be driving selected roads between 4:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. If bus drivers have information on road conditions during this time, contact the TS by radio and/or cell phone. At 5:30 a.m. the TS will contact the four area drivers, the Superintendent of Schools, Sheriff's Office, and County Hwy. Garage to be updated on the conditions. A determination regarding the closing or delaying of schools will then be made.
A decision to modify the school day will be made relative to the general safety of bus routes and/or conditions at the schools. It is understood that potentially all roads cannot be traveled when school is in session. In the event that a driver is unable to run a certain section of the route, it will be the driver’s responsibility to notify the School and the parents affected.
Once the decision has been made, the TS will contact the four area drivers and relay the decision and start the calling tree. The Superintendent or their designee will contact the building Principals. The area drivers will then contact the next driver on the telephone-calling tree. The closing or delay will be announced on the bus radio at 6:00 a.m. and again at 6:30 a.m. Bus drivers must contact the students and/or parents on their routes and inform them of the decision. Every effort will be made to decide before 6:00 a.m. However, rapidly changing weather conditions may force a decision after 6:00 a.m. and before school starts. In such an event, the decision will be announced by bus radio.
